This art piece is based on my interpretation of Sleeping Beauty. I imagined her as a free spirit who doesn't want to be locked up in a golden cage forever. She sits in an abandoned derelict swimming pool, dreaming about her future.

The Message Behind the Artwork

Sleeping Beauty in this artwork has come to represent the resilience and ambition of the modern woman. All too often, sleeping beauty is relegated to a golden cage or kept artificially asleep by society's expectations without the chance to explore the fullness of their potential. This art piece is a passionate, sometimes controversial, interpretation of this iconic fairytale. It follows the story of a young woman, gleaming with independence and vibrancy, in an abandoned swimming pool. To many, it symbolises her struggle to break free from the cage she’s been assigned, a reminder of the strength and courage required for real liberation. Instead of Sleeping Beauty’s story ending on a note of false compliance, this reimagining transcends those cultural expectations and encourages us to dream wildly and think outside of the box.
