Women in Quiet Rebellion Art Prints Collection
The Beginning: Renaissance
Inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi's defiant works, my series begins in the Renaissance. Shimmering fabrics and dramatic light and shadow illuminate women trapped in a world of gilded cages. Their eyes betray a longing to shatter the norms that bind them.
The Crescendo
Regency: With the spirit of Jane Austen's heroines, a flicker of defiance ignites. They yearn to break free from societal expectations, their determination growing beneath a facade of demure smiles.
Victorian: A shift. Maturity and education etch themselves onto their faces. Yet, a silent rebellion burns brighter. Think Catherine Earnshaw and Tess d'Urberville – women crushed by the relentless weight of societal judgment but who dared to chart their path.
Edwardian: My heroine breaks free. Her attire reflects movement, a newfound freedom. She demands her voice to be heard, her stance solidifying.
This is only the beginning. The 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 70s—each decade will bring new layers of defiance and societal change. This project is a visual testament to the unbreakable spirit of women, their voices finally breaking free from centuries of silence.
