Portrait of women who served during World War Two
A portrait photography project celebrating Women Who Contributed to the Second World War effort by serving in the Navy (WRNS), Airforce (WAAF), Army(ATS), Land Army and the Aviation Transport Authority(ATA). I created this project to celebrate Women who took part in the World War Two effort. I started this project with 4 women while completing my MA in Fine Art Photography and decided to continue working on it for another 3 years to find Women to feature in the project.

I travelled across England to meet these women, often reluctant to be photographed because they thought they were too old to be photographed. It took a bit of convincing. They were so eager to share their experience that the portrait became part of it! Let me introduce you to: Jane Lofthouse, ATA pilot, Elaine Clifton served in the WAAF, Barbara Campbell served in the WAAF, Jane Eldridge served in the WRNS (navy), Dorothy Wallis served in the WAAF, Ruth Bourne was stationed at Bletchley Park, Liz Diacon served in the WRNS, Diana Lindo was a mechanic in the WAAF, Phylis Thomas served in the WRNS, Winnifred Armstrong was a lorry driver in the WAAF, Mary Ellis was a pilot for the ATA, Angela Maria Frampton Served in the ATS and was stationed in Italy.
